This is the famous Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion.
On my trip to Greece, I found myself back in Athens with an extra day before my scheduled flight home. This after visiting the Greek Islands, as well as seeing all of my planned objectives on the mainland. I was getting pretty homesick, so I called the airline to see if I could move my departure up a day. They said to come to the airport then, and they would see if they could put me on a flight. So the next morning, I packed up and checked out and took the bus to the airport, which is well outside of Athens.
There, I eventually learned that the airline could not get me an earlier flight back, and I was going to have to wait until my originally scheduled flight the next day! It was a long way back to Athens where I had no hotel reservations, and there was only one hotel at the airport: sterile, expensive, and boring.
I sat there mildly depressed, wondered what I was going to do. And then it hit me: they rent cars at the airport! I knew about the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, though I had not planned to visit it, and the airport is about halfway there from Athens. I figured I could rent a car, drive to the temple, and take my chances on finding a hotel and dinner.

So I did.
