17 Pont du Gard

Southern France was colonized much earlier by the Romans, who built this aqueduct to carry water to the city of Nimes. Built around 50 AD, it is over 900’ feet long and 160’ high. It was in use for about 500 years(!), even continuing to provide some service after the fall of the Roman Empire in the area.
