These are some of the ruins of Ostia, the ancient seaport of Rome, near the mouth of the Tiber. It was abandoned when access to the sea silted up. It is extensive, quite impressive, and relatively unknown compared to, say, Pompeii. It’s near the airport and accessible by light rail from Rome. Definitely worth a visit.
