Here is a view of the ruins of the principal Roman Forum. Not seen behind me is the Senate building where Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44BC. In the upper right is the Palatine Hill where the emperors built their palaces. The arch in the far distance on the left is the Arch of Titus on the Via Sacra, which leads down to the Colosseum (not visible). Before I went, I saw a picture I thought was of the Forum that showed a single column in a modern traffic island. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! :-)
