And, finally, this was my most important objective: to see the Southern Cross. The Cross is the kite-like diamond grouping on the right of center, and the brighter star left of center is the famous Alpha Centauri. Here is one place where my early digital camera failed me - there are more stars in this view in real life than you can possibly imagine! By the way, I took this trip in April to be sure the best part of the sky would be visible - keep that in mind if you are interested.
